Ricoh Diacord G TLR Camera SOLD

RICOH DIACORD G
Product ID: MF110704

OVERVIEW

The Ricohflex “Diamond” Series, renamed “Diacord” outside Japan, was released in the mid 1950’s in an attempt to compete in the Yashica (mat) and Rollei (cord) market. I doubt they were a strong competitor thus less often seen, but the Diacord ain’t no inferior performer.

“I had a Diacord G for quite a while. I have quite a few 11×11 inch matted and framed black and white prints shot with Ricoh Diacord G, Rollei 2.8 E and a Yashica 124. For what its worth the person who makes my prints (which are not cheap) once told me that the Diacord was in her opinion very sharp and contrasty. I think that with good skills applied from start to finish your pictures could be so good that whether you used a Ricoh or a Rollei could be of very minor concern.

The Ricoh also has a unique shutter quite like the Rollei 2.8 C. This shutter has more blades, which if I understand correctly is one reason many people seek the 2.8 C.”

Conrad Poulin , Sep 12, 2003

The Diacord has right or left side focus, which is nice when using a flash bracket. The focus screen is sharper than the stock Yashicamat or older rollei screens.

The Diacord G and L have a cast aluminum body and helical focusing with a lever on each side of the lens panel (Duo-Lever Focusing System) which is nice when using a flash bracket. Better shutters were used giving more speeds:1-1/400 (G) or 1-1/500(L and 225). Later G’s as well as all L’s have the well regarded Rikenon 4-element (tessar style) lens. The Diacord models use knob advance with separate shutter cocking levers with automatic stop on the next frame and thus don’t have the red window.
